Nonequilibrium fluctuations of a tagged, or distinguished particle in a class of one dimensional mean-zero zero-range systems with sublinear, increasing rates are derived. In Jara–Landim–Sethuraman (Probab. Theory Related Fields 145 (2009) 565–590), processes with at least linear rates are considered.

A different approach to establish a main “local replacement” limit is required for sublinear rate systems, given that their mixing properties are much different. The method discussed also allows to capture the fluctuations of a “second-class” particle in unit rate, symmetric zero-range models.

Nous démontrons les fluctuations hors d’équilibre d’une particule marquée pour une classe de systèmes de particules à portée nulle uni-dimensionels de moyenne nulle dont le taux de sauts croit de manière sous-linéaire. Dans Jara–Landim–Sethuraman (Probab. Theory Related Fields 145 (2009) 565–590), ce résutat a été démontré pour des processus dont le taux croit au moins linéairement.

La démonstration du lemme de remplacement dans le cas sous-linéaire exige une nouvelle approche en conséquence des différences entre les propriétés de mélanges des deux processus. La méthode présentée permet également de démontrer les fluctuations d’une particule de deuxième classe dans le modèle à portée nulle symmétrique dont le taux de sauts est égal à $1$.

We consider a left-transient random walk in a random environment on $\mathbb{Z}$ that will be disturbed by cookies inducing a drift to the right of strength 1. The number of cookies per site is i.i.d. and independent of the environment. Criteria for recurrence and transience of the random walk are obtained. For this purpose we use subcritical branching processes in random environments with immigration and formulate criteria for recurrence and transience for these processes.

Nous considérons une marche aléatoire unidimensionnelle en environnement aléatoire qui est transiente à gauche. Cette marche est modifiée par des cookies qui induisent une dérive vers la droite. Le nombre de cookies par site est i.i.d. et indépendant de l’environnement. Des critères pour la récurrence et la transience de la marche sont obtenus. Pour cela, nous utilisons des processus de branchement sous-critiques en environnement aléatoire avec immigration et nous formulons des critères de récurrence et de transience pour ces processus.

We consider a random walk on a homogeneous Poisson point process with energy marks. The jump rates decay exponentially in the $\alpha$-power of the jump length and depend on the energy marks via a Boltzmann-like factor. The case $\alpha=1$ corresponds to the phonon-induced Mott variable range hopping in disordered solids in the regime of strong Anderson localization. We prove that for almost every realization of the marked process, the diffusively rescaled random walk, with an arbitrary start point, converges to a Brownian motion whose diffusion matrix is positive definite and independent of the environment. Finally, we extend the above result to other point processes including diluted lattices.

On considère une marche aléatoire sur les points d’un processus de Poisson marqué. Les taux de saut ont une décroissance exponentielle en fonction de la longueur du saut, généralisant le modèle de sauts à portée variable de Mott pour les systèmes désordonnés en regime de localisation forte d’Anderson. On montre que pour presque toute réalisation du processus ponctuel marqué, la marche aléatoire de point de départ arbitraire satisfait un principe d’invariance avec matrice de diffusion limite déterministe définie positive. On montre que ce resultat s’étend à d’autres processus ponctuels incluant les réseaux dilués.

We prove the Einstein relation, relating the velocity under a small perturbation to the diffusivity in equilibrium, for certain biased random walks on Galton–Watson trees. This provides the first example where the Einstein relation is proved for motion in random media with arbitrarily slow traps.

Nous prouvons la relation d’Einstein pour certaines marches aléatoires biaisées sur des arbres de Galton–Watson. Cette formule relie la dérivée de la vitesse à la diffusivité à l’équilibre. Ce travail fournit le premier exemple de preuve de la relation d’Einstein pour une dynamique dans un milieu aléatoire qui comporte des pièges arbitrairement lents.

We consider a one-dimensional, transient random walk in a random i.i.d. environment. The asymptotic behaviour of such random walk depends to a large extent on a crucial parameter $\kappa>0$ that determines the fluctuations of the process. When $0<\kappa<2$, the averaged distributions of the hitting times of the random walk converge to a $\kappa$-stable distribution. However, it was shown recently that in this case there does not exist a quenched limiting distribution of the hitting times. That is, it is not true that for almost every fixed environment, the distributions of the hitting times (centered and scaled in any manner) converge to a non-degenerate distribution. We show, however, that the quenched distributions do have a limit in the weak sense. That is, the quenched distributions of the hitting times – viewed as a random probability measure on $\mathbb{R}$ – converge in distribution to a random probability measure, which has interesting stability properties. Our results generalize both the averaged limiting distribution and the non-existence of quenched limiting distributions.

Le comportement asymptotique d’une telle marche aléatoire dépend largement d’un paramètre crucial $\kappa$ qui détermine les fluctuations du processus. Si $0<\kappa<2$, alors les distributions moyennées des temps d’atteinte de la marche aléatoire convergent vers une loi $\kappa$-stable. Cependant, il a été récemment prouvé que dans ce cas là, il n’existe pas de distribution limite des temps d’atteinte à environnement fixé. C’est-à-dire, il n’est pas vrai que presque tout environnement fixé, les distributions des temps d’atteinte (centrés et normalisés de quelque manière que ce soit) convergent vers une distribution non dégénérée. Nous montrons néanmoins que les distributions à environnement fixé ont une limite au sens faible. Plus précisément, les distributions à environnement fixé des temps d’atteinte – vues comme des mesures de probabilité aléatoires sur $\mathbb{R}$ – convergent en distribution vers une mesure de probabilité aléatoire qui a d’intéressantes propriétés de stabilité. Nos résultats généralisent à la fois la limite des distributions moyennisées et la non existence de distributions limites à environnement fixé.

We consider a random walk in a random potential, which models a situation of a random polymer and we study the annealed and quenched costs to perform long crossings from a point to a hyperplane. These costs are measured by the so called Lyapounov norms. We identify situations where the point-to-hyperplane annealed and quenched Lyapounov norms are different. We also prove that in these cases the polymer path exhibits localization.

Nous considérons une marche aléatoire dans un potentiel aléatoire qui modèle la situation d’un polymère aléatoire et nous étudions les coûts “annealed” et “quenched” pour réaliser de longues traversées d’un point à un hyperplan. Ces coûts sont mesurés en terme de normes de Lyapounov. Nous identifions des situations où les normes de Lyapounov d’un point à un hyperplan “annealed” et “quenched” sont différentes. Nous démontrons également que dans ces cas le chemin du polymère présente une localisation.

We consider the hierarchical disordered pinning model studied in (J. Statist. Phys. 66 (1992) 1189–1213), which exhibits a localization/delocalization phase transition. In the case where the disorder is i.i.d. (independent and identically distributed), the question of relevance/irrelevance of disorder (i.e. whether disorder changes or not the critical properties with respect to the homogeneous case) is by now mathematically rather well understood (Probab. Theory Related Fields 148 (2010) 159–175, Pure Appl. Math. 63 (2010) 233–265). Here we consider the case where randomness is spatially correlated and correlations respect the hierarchical structure of the model; in the non-hierarchical model our choice would correspond to a power-law decay of correlations.

In terms of the critical exponent of the homogeneous model and of the correlation decay exponent, we identify three regions. In the first one (non-summable correlations) the phase transition disappears. In the second one (correlations decaying fast enough) the system behaves essentially like in the i.i.d. setting and the relevance/irrelevance criterion is not modified. Finally, there is a region where the presence of correlations changes the critical properties of the annealed system.

Phys. 66 (1992) 1189–1213), qui possède une transition de phase de localisation/délocalisation. Dans le cas où le désordre est i.i.d. (indépendant et identiquement distribué), la question de pertinence/non pertinence du désordre (i.e. de savoir si le désordre change ou non les propriétés critiques du système par rapport au cas homogène) est maintenant bien comprise d’un point de vue mathématique (Probab. Theory Related Fields 148 (2010) 159–175, Pure Appl. Math. 63 (2010) 233–265). Nous considérons ici le cas où le désordre est corrélé spatialement, et où les corrélations respectent la structure hiérarchique du modèle; dans le cadre non-hiérarchique, notre choix correspondrait à une décroissance en loi de puissance des corrélations.

En termes d’exposant critique du modèle homogène et d’exposant de décroissance des corrélations, nous identifions trois régions. Dans la première (corrélations non sommables), la transition de phase disparaît. Dans la deuxième (corrélations décroissant suffisamment vite), le système se comporte essentiellement comme dans le cas i.i.d., et le critère de pertinence/non pertinence du désordre n’est pas modifié. Enfin, il existe une région où le présence de corrélations change les propriétés critiques du système annealed.

We formulate and study a model for inhomogeneous long-range percolation on $\mathbb{Z}^{d}$. Each vertex $x\in\mathbb{Z}^{d}$ is assigned a non-negative weight $W_{x}$, where $(W_{x})_{x\in\mathbb{Z}}^{d}$ are i.i.d. random variables. Conditionally on the weights, and given two parameters $\alpha,\lambda>0$, the edges are independent and the probability that there is an edge between $x$ and $y$ is given by $p_{xy}=1-\exp\{-\lambda W_{x}W_{y}/|x-y|^{\alpha}\}$. The parameter $\lambda$ is the percolation parameter, while $\alpha$ describes the long-range nature of the model. We focus on the degree distribution in the resulting graph, on whether there exists an infinite component and on graph distance between remote pairs of vertices.

First, we show that the tail behavior of the degree distribution is related to the tail behavior of the weight distribution. When the tail of the distribution of $W_{x}$ is regularly varying with exponent $\tau-1$, then the tail of the degree distribution is regularly varying with exponent $\gamma=\alpha(\tau-1)/d$. The parameter $\gamma$ turns out to be crucial for the behavior of the model. Conditions on the weight distribution and $\gamma$ are formulated for the existence of a critical value $\lambda_{\mathrm{c}}\in(0,\infty)$ such that the graph contains an infinite component when $\lambda>\lambda_{\mathrm{c}}$ and no infinite component when $\lambda<\lambda_{\mathrm{c}}$. Furthermore, a phase transition is established for the graph distances between vertices in the infinite component at the point $\gamma=2$, that is, at the point where the degrees switch from having finite to infinite second moment.

The model can be viewed as an interpolation between long-range percolation and models for inhomogeneous random graphs, and we show that the behavior shares the interesting features of both these models.

Nous définissons et étudions un modèle de percolation inhomogènes à longue portée sur $\mathbb{Z}^{d}$. A chaque site $x\in\mathbb{Z}^{d}$ est assigné un poids positif $W_{x}$, où les $(W_{x})_{x\in\mathbb{Z}^{d}}$ sont des variables aléatoires indépendantes et identiquement distribuées. Conditionnellement aux poids et étant donnés deux paramètres $\alpha,\lambda>0$, les arêtes sont indépendantes et la probabilité qu’il existe un lien entre $x$ et $y$ est $p_{xy}=1-\exp\{-\lambda W_{x}W_{y}/|x-y|^{\alpha}\}$. Le paramètre $\lambda$ est le paramètre de percolation tandis que $\alpha$ caractérise la portée des interactions. Nous étudierons la distribution des degrés dans le graphe résultant et l’existence éventuelle d’une composante infinie ainsi que la distance de graphe entre deux sites éloignés.

Nous montrons d’abord que la queue de la distribution des degrés est liée à la queue de la distribution des poids. Quand la queue de la distribution de $W_{x}$ est à variation régulière d’indice $\tau-1$, alors la queue de la distribution des degrés est à variation régulière d’indice $\gamma=\alpha(\tau-1)/d$. Le paramètre $\gamma$ s’avère crucial pour décrire le modèle. Des conditions sur la distribution des poids et de $\gamma$ sont formulées pour l’existence d’une valeur critique $\lambda_{\mathrm{c}}\in(0,\infty)$ telle que le graphe contienne une composante infinie quand $\lambda>\lambda_{\mathrm{c}}$ et aucune composante infinie quand $\lambda<\lambda_{\mathrm{c}}$. De plus, une transition de phase est établie pour la distance dans le graphe de la composante infinie au point $\gamma=2$, c’est à dire au point où les degrés n’ont plus de second moment fini.

Notre modèle peut être vu comme une interpolation entre la percolation à longue portée et des modèles de graphes aléatoires inhomogènes. Nous montrons qu’il possède les caractéristiques des deux modèles précédents.

We introduce the notion of a restricted exchangeable partition of $\mathbb{N}$. We obtain integral representations, consider associated fragmentations, embeddings into continuum random trees and convergence to such limit trees. In particular, we deduce from the general theory developed here a limit result conjectured previously for Ford’s alpha model and its extension, the alpha-gamma model, where restricted exchangeability arises naturally.

Nous introduisons la notion d’une partition restreinte échangeable de $\mathbb{N}$. Nous obtenons des représentations intégrales, nous considérons les fragmentations associées, des plongements dans des arbres aléatoires continus et la convergence vers de tels arbres limites. En particulier, nous déduisons de la théorie générale développée içi un résultat limite formulé en conjecture dans un travail précédent. Ce résultat particulier concerne les arbres alpha de Ford et leurs généralisations, les arbres alpha-gamma, deux exemples où l’échangeabilité restreinte arrive de manière naturelle.

We prove a stochastic formula for the Gaussian relative entropy in the spirit of Borell’s formula for the Laplace transform. As an application, we give simple proofs of a number of functional inequalities.

On démontre une formule stochastique pour l’entropie relative par rapport à la Gaussienne, dans le genre de la formule de Borell pour la transformée de Laplace. Cette formule donne des preuves simples d’un certain nombre d’inégalités fonctionnelles.

Given a random sample from some unknown density $f_{0}:\mathbb{R}\to [0,\infty)$ we devise Haar wavelet estimators for $f_{0}$ with variable resolution levels constructed from localised test procedures (as in Lepski, Mammen and Spokoiny (Ann. Statist. 25 (1997) 927–947)). We show that these estimators satisfy an oracle inequality that adapts to heterogeneous smoothness of $f_{0}$, simultaneously for every point $x$ in a fixed interval, in sup-norm loss. The thresholding constants involved in the test procedures can be chosen in practice under the idealised assumption that the true density is locally constant in a neighborhood of the point $x$ of estimation, and an information theoretic justification of this practise is given.

A partir d’un échantillon d’une loi de densité $f_{0}:\mathbb{R}\to [0,\infty)$, nous construisons des estimateurs par ondelettes de Haar de $f_{0}$, dont les niveaux de résolution varient et sont construits à partir de tests localisés (comme dans l’article Lepski (Ann. Statist. 25 (1997) 927–947)). Nous montrons que ces estimateurs satisfont une inégalité oracle adaptive par rapport à la régularité potentiellement hétérogène de $f_{0}$, simultanément pour tout point $x$ dans un intervalle donné, en norme infinie. Les constantes de seuillage utilisées dans les procédures de test peuvent être choisies en pratique en supposant de manière idéalisée que la vraie densité est localement constante dans un voisinage du point $x$ considéré, pratique que nous justifions par un argument de théorie de l’information.
